"Not Unto Us"

St. Mark's 50th Anniversary News and Information

St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Nebraska, plans to celebrate 50 years of God’s grace in 2007, with a commemorative service on June 10, 2007, at 10 a.m. and a meal to follow. The theme of the celebration is “Not Unto Us,” with a focus on Psalm 115:1, 12-18. Pastor Kenneth Bode, one of St. Mark’s former pastors, will preach, and Pastor Stephen Raddatz will serve as the liturgist. Anyone is welcome to join the congregation in offering thanks to God for blessing the ministry of St. Mark.

St. Mark congregation conducted its first worship service on December 30, 1956, at a public school. Six worshipers attended. On August 17, 1957, the congregation began worshipping in the basement of the property that now serves as a teacherage. The congregation formally organized in April 1962 and incorporated into its mission statement Jesus’ great commission to spread the Gospel. The church building was completed in 1966. In 1978, the congregation instituted a Lutheran elementary school. By the grace of God, the congregation has grown to 345 communicant members, and the school serves 32 students.

St. Mark offers a place where Christians may partake of the means of grace and equip themselves to share their hope in the Lord with others. God has richly blessed the congregation throughout its history with the service of called workers. St. Mark is currently served by Pastor Raddatz, Staff Minister Michael Kumwenda, and teachers Matthew Kanzenbach and Amanda Marquardt. The generous stewardship of lay members has also furthered the mission of spreading the gospel. For example, volunteers film each worship service and stream and archive them on our website.
